Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
